The Best Advice I've Ever Received

I thought this would be a fun idea for a blog post, and it also forced me to actually think about the best advice I have ever received. I'm 25, and people love to impart wisdom on the young. I have received a lot of advice through the years. I had an idea of what I wanted to say, but I asked Parker to see if our answers would be similar. They were extremely similar. He said "treat others how you want to be treated". Very similar to what I was going to say. The best advice I have ever received comes from the Bible, and it's very simple:

Love your neighbor as yourself.

So simple, in theory, yet so difficult in execution. Let's call a spade a spade: some people are just plain hard to love. It's hard to love someone when they've wronged me or said hurtful things behind my back. The way I see it though, if Jesus can love me for all of the sins I've committed in my day and will commit in future days, I can love other sinners too. Not only that, but anger and bitterness towards someone can be consuming. It can be intoxicating. I'd so much rather choose to love someone even if it's hard than be absorbed in my hatred.

So that's it. Short and sweet today. I could write a novel on why we should love people, but God already wrote one, and His version is pretty darn perfect. It sounds so trivial, but these 5 words hold so much power: "Love your neighbor as yourself".

I asked my sponsors this month what the best advice they have ever received is. Go check them out and say hello!
