$15 Bookshelf Makeover

I have this cheapo wooden bookshelf I purchased from Walmart in college, and it was just not working with the new turquoise desk. So naturally, I decided it needed a makeover. Without further ado, I present my $15 bookshelf, pre makeover.

I used leftover paint (Turquoise Tint from Lowes) from the desk and a roller we had laying around the house, so voila! This project was free.

I did this project the quick and easy way. I wiped the bookshelf down with a wet paper towel and let it dry. This is where I got lazy. I should have probably primed it, but I just went right ahead and painted. I used this roller to apply the paint and it worked like a charm. We usually use foam brushes, but for larger projects the rollers are the way to go.

I painted one coat, let it completely dry, and then painted the second coat an hour later. Two coats was the perfect amount, so I let it dry overnight.

Now my little $15 bookshelf matches the new desk, and I can't help but smile at the color every time I see it. I hope for Parker's sake I don't get turquiose happy and start painting the walls. Kidding, but seriously.
