I Want To Freeze Frame Time, But Not Really

I've mentioned this before on the blog, but moving to Corpus Christi was never something we planned on. We thought we would be in Kingsville until May and then go to Washington or California. God had a different plan, so here we are in Corpus Christi getting ready to go to Virginia this summer. Once we got over the initial shock of it all, we were actually really excited. Virginia sounds like a really cool adventure, we have a few friends there, and neither of us has ever spent any significant amount of time on the east coast. Virginia sounded like a winner, so we were ready for this summer to get here so we could begin the new adventure. Oh yeah, first we had to move up the road to Corpus Christi, TX and live there for four months. We were excited to move a little closer to civilization, but it's four months out of our lives. We didn't really care.

We've officially lived here a week, and we are both wishing time would just slow itself down. We couldn't love it more! We love our house. We love the convenience of living on base. We love being so close to the beach. We just love it here. It's funny, because we really love our house. It might be our favorite place we've ever lived. On paper, it's by far the worst if you don't count the one bedroom apartment we lived in right after getting married. This is the smallest house we have ever lived in with the smallest yard and the smallest garage. It doesn't sound like much to write home about on paper, and I am sitting here racking my brain for the reason we love it so much. I honestly have no idea, but it's just a fun place to call home.

Oh wait, now I remember why we love this house so much. It's the view. Our house backs up to the water, and we have a view of the ocean from our back porch. We take daily walks along the water as a little family. It's right out of a summer vacation, but here it's just normal, every day life. A lot of it is nostalgia for me as well. My family took a vacation to this beach every year since I was about 9. We haven't made it back in the last couple of years with weddings and summer school, but this is where we spent our summer for the better part of 10 years. When I look out to the water from my back porch, I see the big bridge we drove over growing up, signifying we had finally made it to the beach. It stinks of rotten seaweed most mornings. I tell Parker it smells like childhood. I'm loving it.

We've been spending as much time as we can outside. Parker the handyman even spent $20 and built us two chairs to go with a giant cooler we have so we can eat overlooking the water.

I told Parker the other night that I wish we could be here longer, and he shot me a look that said "don't put that on us!". It's true. We really don't want to stay here longer than four months. Staying here longer would mean something went wrong. Aside from weather and plane maintenance issues, the only way we stay here longer is if Parker gets hurt or sick and has to go "med down". Obviously I'm not wishing for that, so I am all for getting out of here in four months. I do wish I could freeze frame time though, just for a little while. This is a short season of our lives, but it's turned into one of my favorite so far.

I love nothing more than eating our meals outside on our patio. We try to eat our breakfasts out there on the weekend, and when it stays light out late enough our dinners during the week too :)

He did an amazing job on the chairs!

I'm so glad that you love your new home! I'm right there with you sort of hoping that time would slow down, but not really. I love being in Toronto and don't want to leave, but I also don't want time to slow down because leaving Toronto means it'll be the end of the hockey season and that much closer to our wedding!

It sounds so nice there. I would love to wake up to a view like that each day. I hope y'all enjoy Virginia when you get here. I'm in central VA and I like it here.

Living on post is really convenient, isn't it? I thought I'd hate it, but Ryan and I absolutely love it. It takes him 2 minutes to get to work, it's safe and we've had nothing but great neighbors. It's always an adventure being a military wife :)

It's beautiful. Sometimes simple places bring is more joy than we could imagine. Despite being far away from my family our tiny apartment has brought on so much peace. Don't tell anyone else but I really do love it!
