A Love/Hate Relationship

I have a love/hate relationship with a few things, like working out...and chocolate. Another happens to be Halloween. Parker and I both agree I am kind of like the Halloween Scrooge. I love most holidays- Thanksgiving, Christmas, 4th of July, you name it. Halloween, however, is one I can't seem to get too jazzed up about. I don't completely dislike the holiday at all. It's a love/hate relationship.

Hate Strongly Dislike
The Scary: I can be such a baby. Parker isn't even allowed to mention zombies close to bedtime or I might have nightmares. Seriously, I have the tolerance for scary things of a five year old.
The Suggestive: "Halloween is the one day a year where girls can dress provocatively and get away with it". I am not sure why this is a rule. I'm not loving it.
The Mean: Growing up, I had a black cat. We always made sure we put him inside for Halloween so bad things wouldn't happen to him. Some people like to do bad things to black cats on Halloween, and I couldn't hate this more.

Love
The Candy: Well, that was a given. Who doesn't love eating all that candy? When you're a kid, it's so fun to go through the candy and see what goodness you managed to scoop up this year. As an adult, it's fun to pass out candy to the kids and tell them how neat their little costumes are.
The Kids: How precious is it to see kiddos get so excited about dressing up as their favorite character? You get to be a princess or a soldier or, in my case, Big Bird. Don't worry, my twin sister got to be the Cookie Monster. That's a red letter day for any kid.
The Costumes: Costumes are fun for kids and adults alike, and I love seeing what cute ideas couples come up with or groups of friends decide to band together as. People can get pretty darn creative!
The Pumpkins: I love that everyone carves pumpkins. Seeing pumpkins on doorsteps is the best. It represents cool weather and the Fall spirit that we all get into.

Is anyone else partially like the Halloween Scrooge? I am so excited to pass out candy to kids tonight and oooh and ahhh over their costumes. To me, that's Halloween!

Happy Halloween from our little pumpkin!

Yes, she absolutely hated that costume. I can't blame her.

I agree with the chocolate thing :) And I absolutely love those holidays and celebrations as well! One thing I've had trouble enjoying is Halloween - I'm never good at picking costumes, all that candy is too tempting, I agree with your suggestive notion, and I really just don't prefer to be scared. Hence, I don't watch scary movies, unless they are the cheezy kind like Tower of Terror or something on ABC Family. I guess that makes me a partial Halloween scrooge as well? Almost forgot to get candy to hand out tonight! Also, love that picture of your pups! Ours would never let us do that, the only thing she wears is her harness, because she knows she will go for a walk. Maybe if I disguise it..
Anyway, have a great day!

I'm probably totally a halloween thing. I don't like any type of scary movie--or death, dying, and evil things. I can get candy any time of year and can dress up in a costume any time i want (my town has a themed swing dance onee a week all year round with a different costume theme nearly every single week--even if there's no theme, you can come in costume because probably, lots of people will. It's weird, but fun!)

Halloween is not my favorite at all. Mainly because so much of it is just ugly. I am not interested in putting up ugly decorations or when people dress up like zombies, scary costumes....why would anyone want to look like that?!

I do agree that it is fun to give out candy to trick or treaters in their costumes, and I love pumpkin everything!

I'm definitely not a fan of halloween most of the time! I love the colors and the pumpkins, but I think the idea of scaring children is wrong and also it seems like in recent years the candy intake has gotten a little out of control! And I agree, some really mean and bad stuff can happen on Halloween and I don't like that part at all.

I'm not really a Halloween fan either. No trick-or-treaters live in my neighborhood so I don't even buy candy or wear a costume anymore!

I absolutely despise that Halloween is all about being more and more provocative - and it being acceptable. My mother never really believed in Halloween, as we didn't celebrate it in South Africa, so it was never at the top of my list if priorities. I do, however, enjoy the candy!

I like Halloween sort of. I'm not a fan of the provocative costumes, but I love everything else. John is a Halloween Scrooge. He never dressed up as a child.

New follower here! And yes I agree with you!
I'm a big baby about scary things and I do not get the lingire as a costume concept!
But please by all means BRING ON THE CANDY!

When it comes to The Suggestive, I'm with you 100%. I also don't like the thought of spending $100 on a costume that shows more skin than it covers. Not to mention, that you can only wear that costume once!

I think that what we have done with Halloween is crazy.

People tend to forget that Halloween is "All Hallows Eve" and falls on the evening before the Christian holy days of All Hallows' Day (also known as All Saints', Hallowmas or Hallowtide) on November 1 and All Souls' Day on November 2, thus giving the holiday on October 31 the full name of All Hallows' Eve.Since the time of the primitive Church, major feasts in the Christian Church (such as Christmas, Easter and Pentecost) had vigils which began the night before, as did the feast of All Hallows'. These three days are collectively referred to as Hallowmas and are a time for honoring the saints and praying for the recently departed souls who have yet to reach Heaven Hallows Eve".

And dressing sexy has nothing to do it.

Preach sista! I agree with every pro and con you have listed. Best thing about Halloween is the little kiddos dressed up! On that note, I'll be sitting in my garage hoping that some cute little pumpkins or lions come to our house.

I love everything Halloween. I grew up like that and I will always love it. Next year I plan on going all out and celebrating Halloween week.

I am so excited to one day live somewhere where we get trick or treaters! The little ones in costumes is the best!

I'm not a fan of the scary/slutty side of Halloween but I still really love the holiday. :-)

I actually love Halloween, but this year we are being scrooge's because we live in an apartment and I really don't want to take William tick-or-treating around here. But we did get pumpkins :)

I agree completely with disliking the suggestive. I don't get it at all. And I love everything on the love list too! I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but it's a nice treat every once in a while. I heard that extra Halloween candy can be donated to troops overseas. I may have to look into that. Cool blog! Glad I found you from Tammy Jo's blog!

Haha I am the same way. I am definitely a Halloween scrooge!

That pumpkin costume is TOO cute! I can imagine she hated it though ha ha!

Amen! I am right there with you! Halloween Scrooges unite!

I as well had a black cat growing up and we had to put her away during Halloween as well. It's sad but insane how crazy people are.

The pumpkin costume is to die for! Absolutely adorable!

It's weird because in a way I HATE scary movies, but then I end up watching them and although the entire time I'm covering up my eyes I end up liking them. Weird. What a cute little puppy costume!
