June To-Do
Despite my best efforts to make May last forever, June is indeed upon us. Definitely crazy to think that we are almost halfway through 2016... what?! I typically share my monthly goals on the first day of each month, but I am changing things just a tad and calling this a "June To-Do". Here's what is on my to-do list for June!
Before we go into June's list of to-dos, lets take a look and see how May's goals went...
Spring clean... check! Well, I could have done better, but I cleaned the whole house and it was sparkling for a short period of time. ;)
Host our first visitors of 2016... check! We hosted Parker's parents and had a wonderful time!
Go on a cruise... check! This was easily our favorite vacation to date and just what we needed in this season of life. Recaps here, here, and here.
Make Sunday night Game of Thrones night... check! I had to chuckle when I started writing this and realized that was one of my goals. Game of Thrones is a big deal in our house, and hanging out on the couch each Sunday night watching the next episode is something we both look forward to! I never knew R + L = J would be something I enjoyed discussing with my husband but that seems to be the reality we have found ourselves in.
Live in the moment... check. I am really proud of how we handled this month. We didn't focus on the fact that he would soon be leaving but instead treasured each moment together. May was amazing for so many reasons.
-----------------------
And now for June!
-----------------------
Host a baby shower for my twin sister. I am so excited about this! I have a lot of planning to do and will probably do the brunt of it the week before the shower. #typical
Make a scrapbook for our cruise. I am going to make it online using Shutterfly or Picaboo and am so excited to add it to the collection!
Welcome Parker to the 27 club! It's my favorite guy's birthday month, and a celebration is in order!
Register for Be The Match. I've always said I would do this and have never gotten around to it. June is the month! I would love to be the match for someone somewhere and give them a second chance at life.
Celebrate 5 years of marriage. It's pretty crazy to both of us that we have been married for 5 years come June 26th. 5 years down (almost), forever to go!
Happy June!
May Goals
We are officially in May. That blows my mind! I feel like I say this every month, but man is time moving quickly! We are almost halfway through 2016 and I feel like we were just dancing the night away at a wedding while we rang in the new year. Craziness, I tell you!
Live in the moment... The near future is just a little depressing with deployment looming over our heads, so I want to make sure we are focusing on the here and now and not what's coming.
Like the beginning of every month around this blog (I'm a little late this month- oops!), I am sharing my goals for May. Before I get to my May goals, let's see how April's goals went...
Run 30 miles... so close, but fail. I underestimated how chilly it still is in April, and I am a huge wimp and won't run in the cold. I started this goal in the middle of the month and still came close to finishing with 24.75 miles. I'm not mad about it.
Go to a new restaurant... check! We tried Mission BBQ and absolutely loved it! It's hard to please our little Texas BBQ-loving hearts in Virginia because everything is pork-based, but they had a brisket that was lip-smackin good. We loved it!
Spring clean... fail. I don't even know why I made this a goal. I knew I wouldn't do it. Kristen Wiig said it best in Bridesmaids. I was set up for a loss already. Fortunately we have guests coming in May which will force me to clean the house!
Find out if I am having a niece or nephew... check! They haven't announced it yet so I can't spoil the surprise, but I am absolutely THRILLED! Seriously, if you ask Parker, all I talk about these days is this baby. I am obsessed with becoming an aunt in just a few short months! Sister friend is 22 weeks today!
Go kayaking... check! It was freezing but so fun. We loved it! I blogged all about our ski pants & Sperrys kayaking day date here.
-----------------------
And now for May!
-----------------------
Spring clean... Like I said above, we have company coming, so if I don't get this done, I've failed miserably.
Host our first visitors of 2016... We seriously love hosting and beg people to come stay with us. Parker's parents are coming and we couldn't be more excited!
Go on a cruise... So happy to actually get to do this! We have been wanting to go on a cruise since getting married 5 years ago, and our frenemy the Navy has always had other ideas. So excited this dream is finally becoming a reality this month.
Make Sunday night Game of Thrones night... If you know my husband, you know he loves Game of Thrones. It took some time (a long time), but I have finally gotten to the point where I really enjoy it too. The new Season 6 episodes are coming on Sunday evenings, and it's so fun seeing how excited he gets about watching it together. For the premiere, we did our best Game of Thrones-inspired dinner with wine, steak, bread, and a cheese platter. Not sure if that's actually what they eat in that world, but it was a best effort kind of thing.
Live in the moment... The near future is just a little depressing with deployment looming over our heads, so I want to make sure we are focusing on the here and now and not what's coming.
That's May!
Oh, and happy Cinco de Mayo! It's 5:00 somewhere, and a margarita is calling all of our names.
April Goals
Hello, April! April means Springtime, and Springtime means goodbye cold weather. Since I forget how to function when the sun isn't shining, I am welcoming April with open arms! Springtime on the east coast is always exciting because the cherry blossoms start to bloom. So pretty!
As is custom on the first of every month, I am sharing my goals and to-do list in hopes that this little blog will keep me accountable! Before we get to my goals for April, let's see how March's goals went...
Add a breakfast section to my Recipes tab... fail! Oh my gosh, why can I not just sit down and do this? This was also one of my February goals, and I failed it then too. Geez!
Ride 50 miles on my bike... fail! Well, so far we are 0 for 2. I only rode 17, but it did feel great to ride the few times I did!
Redesign my blog... check! I love the new look and love even more that I didn't have to spend hours upon hours designing it myself. Best $12 I have ever spent! To see Anchors Aweigh designs through the years, click here.
Put my husband first... check I think? This isn't really quantifiable, but I tried to put him first as much as I could this month, so I am calling this one a success.
Take a Spring Break from blogging... check! And oh was it wonderful! I scheduled posts, brainstormed new ideas, and enjoyed myself. A week off was just what the doctor ordered.
------------------------
And now for April!
------------------------
Run 30 miles. The weather is nice again, so it's time for me to get out there and run!
Go to a new restaurant. Parker and I are such creatures of habit. This month, I want to branch out and go somewhere we have never been!
Spring clean. Not my ideal Saturday, but I need to deep clean this house for Spring! I'd say there is a 50/50 chance I actually do this.
Find out if I am having a niece or nephew. We should know by the end of this month and I. Need. To. Know. Now!
Go Kayaking. Parker has been itching to do this for months, and the weather is finally going to let it happen. Time to rent those kayaks and go!
Yay goals! What are you hoping to accomplish this month?
March Goals
Happy month of March! March means the end of all the snow and the beginning of shorts season. If you know me, you know I would wear shorts or dresses every day of the year if I could. It's been in the 60s on the East coast this week, so I am welcoming March with open arms! In honor of the first day of the new month, I've come up with a whole new list of goals to tackle!
Before we get to March, let's see how February's goals went...
Turn 27... check! I flew home to the motherland (Texas, of course) to celebrate my birthday with my twin sister and family, and then I had a wonderful weekend celebration with the husband. No complaints about 27 so far!
Add a breakfast section to my Recipes tab... fail! Total fail. I completely forgot to do this. Oopsies.
Do 1000 push-ups... check! I love accomplishing this goal. I always feel like I can see a teensy bit more definition in my arms, which makes me happy happy happy.
Find a new show to binge watch... check! Yall, I am already on season 3 of Revenge and completely hooked! It's only 4 seasons and I am dreading finishing it. It's so. darn. good!
Go skiing... check! Parker and I went this past weekend and had the best time! More on that tomorrow!
-----------------------------
And now for March!
-----------------------------
Add a breakfast section to my Recipes tab. Since I failed to do this in February, let's try to get it done in March!
Ride 50 miles on my bike. This should be easy to complete, and now that the weather is pretty, I want to get back on the bike!
Redesign my blog. I have always done it myself, so I am trying to decide if I want to again redesign it myself or throw in the towel and pay someone to do it. It's just time for a little facelift!
Put my husband first. Time before the big D is passing quickly, and I want to put aside any and all selfish tendencies and completely focus on him and our marriage.
Take a Spring Break from blogging. I want to take a week off to refocus and do a little bit of planning. This blog is a hobby that I am passionate about, and lately I haven't felt like I am putting in the time that I want to. I want to take a week to schedule posts, redesign, and think about the direction I want this little space to take.
Yay for March and yay for goals! What are you hoping to get accomplished this month?
February Goals
Happy February, friends! There is something fun about starting a new month, and it's crazy to think we are already 1/12 of the way through 2016. February is funny, because people typically either love it or hate it. Valentine's Day has a lot to do with that one. Since I was actually born on Valentine's Day, I've always thought February to be a wonderfully awesome month, but I may be biased just a little. ;)
Turn 27. What a copout of a goal. I am going to turn 27 this month whether I try to or not, so this is more of a to-do, I suppose. Either way, it's my birth month, and those are always fun!
Add a breakfast section to my Recipes tab. When I updated that tab last month, I realized I have enough breakfast recipes to divide them up into their own category. I really don't know if anyone looks at this tab, but the OCD in me needs the breakfast recipes separate. :)
Do 1000 push-ups. This is a recycled goal. I have done this once or twice, but I can always tell a teeny tiny difference in my arms after I do, so I want to do it again!
Find a new show to binge watch. I mentioned Friday that I finished Gossip Girl and am already sad it's over. I need a new show that I can watch an episode of here and there when I have the time. Suggestions welcome!
Go skiing. This has been on the to-do list for a long time, so it's time to make it a reality! I have been skiing once as a kid, and Parker has never been, so we will be those adults going 1 mile an hour trying not to fall down and twist an ankle. Here goes nothing!
With the start of the new month, it's time for some new goals! But before we get to February, let's see how January's goals went...
Get 10,000 steps 6 out of 7 days each week... check! There were exactly 4 days this month that I didn't get 10,000, so I just barely made it. If you caught this post, you know I have fully embraced the Fitbit life.
Paint the house (or at least get the ball rolling)... checkish. The ball is definitely rolling! We have chosen a color (so much easier said than done), and have painters scheduled to come this month! We are so excited!
Read the book of Philippians... fail! Oops, I totally forgot to do this. I need to remember to look back at this post throughout the month, because I completely forgot this was a goal. Fail.
Update the Recipes tab on my blog... check! It's a quick process when I actually remember to do it, which is apparently rarely.
Make an appointment to get a retainer... fail! I remembered this was a goal but sat on it all month for really no reason at all. I still have my old retainer, but it's a little tight since my teeth have shifted. I kind of just want to wear it anyway and avoid buying a new one. That's probably not the orthodontist recommended way of doing things.
So I didn't do great with my goals this month, but it wasn't a complete bust either.
-----------------------------
And now for February!
-----------------------------

Yay goals! So tell me, are you a February lover, or would you be a-okay just skipping to March?
January Goals
Well hello, 2016! I asked Parker if he could believe it was already 2016, and he responded "I still can't believe it's already 2015! Weren't we just in college?". Preach it, husband. My thoughts exactly. Even though January 1st is just another calendar day and really no different from May 15th (the first arbitrary date that popped into my head), there is something fun about setting goals and starting fresh in the new year.
Make an appointment to get a retainer. This is a random one, but I stopped wearing my retainer after I got my braces off, and I can tell me teeth are starting to move. My teeth were absolutely terrible pre orthodontics, and I don't want to negate 4 years of braces just because I stopped wearing my retainer. My old one doesn't really fit anymore thanks to the slight teeth shift, so I need to just suck it up and get a new one.
Fun fact: Our pastor at church told us this past Sunday that, based on research from 2015, the most common new years resolution is to get healthy/lose weight/etc. The second most common is to develop a deeper relationship with God. The first was a given, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn the latter.
I loved doing monthly goals last year and am excited to keep the trend going in 2016. Goals are good, goals are fun, and writing them down for the interwebs seems to keep me accountable.
But before we get to my January goals, let's see how December's goals went...
Watch 5 Christmas movies... check! I watched The Grinch, Love Actually, The Christmas Card, A Christmas Kiss, and Elf.
Work-out at least 3 times a week... check! It was touch and go the week after Christmas, but I managed to get the work-outs in semi-regularly. I am so excited to be back home in my normal work-out routine!
Bless someone... check! We love this tradition that Parker's family does where we each get a set amount of money and choose someone to bless with it. It's always fun to hear what everyone chooses to do.
Host a Christmas party... check! I hosted the squadron wives for a Christmas party/white elephant.
Savor every moment... checkish. I could have been better about this the day or two before we went back home because we were ready to be back in our house with our dog and in our little routine, but I think we both did a good job of treasuring the time we had and spending good quality time with our families in Texas.
-----------------------------
And now for January!
-----------------------------
Get 10,000 steps 6 out of 7 days of each week. I just got a new fitbit, and the competitve part of me wants to get the 10,000 step checkmark before going to bed each night. Fun fact: we read the fitbit app was the most downloaded app the week after Christmas. Apparently a lot of people are going to be working on their 10,000 steps!
Paint the house. Or at least get the ball rolling. We have been wanting to paint our house since before moving in, and we have used time, money, and pure laziness as reasons not to do it. No more waiting. Time to pick a color (so daunting) and paint this house!
Read the book of Philippians. I want to make an effort to dive into the Bible more, and I'm excited to start with Philippians.
Update the recipes tab on my blog. I gave it a new look and updated it back in August, but I haven't added any recipes to the list since. I post a new recipe each week, so I have quite a few to add to the list to catch up. I don't know if anyone even looks at those, but the OCD in me needs it to be complete.

Goals goals goals! Does anyone have any fun new year's resolutions they are working towards?
December Goals
December is upon us! It blows my mind that next month is the start of a new year, and I'm not quite sure how I feel about that, so let's just pretend that December lasts forever. I actually got sad on December 1st because I know how quickly Christmas will come and go. But, let's not think about that. Let's think about how wonderful December is and how we can all make the most of it. It's time for some goals!
Before we get to December, let's take a look at how November's goals went...
Order our Christmas card... check! I just love sending and receiving Christmas cards. I love to display them throughout the kitchen with ribbons and clothespins.
Finish Christmas shopping... check! Two words: Cyber. Monday. Christmas shopping is complete!
Host Friendsgiving... check! This was our first Thanksgiving away from our families, so we had our other "homeless" friends over for Friendsgiving. We had the best time! So thankful for our military family.
Do 1000 push-ups... fail. Epic fail. As in, I didn't even come close. In all honesty, I forgot about this goal about 1/3 of the way through the month. Oopsies!
Decorate the house for Christmas... check! The benefit of not traveling over Thanksgiving was that we got to decorate the very next day! To say we are obsessed with seeing our house all decked out in Christmas is an understatement. Christmas music is on repeat on Pandora, and it's all absolutely wonderful!
-----------------------------
And now for December!
-----------------------------
1. Watch 5 Christmas movies. One of our favorites is The Holiday, and I really want to watch Love, Actually this month. It's a classic that I've never seen!
2. Work-out at least 3 times a week. It's tough to keep up the work-out routine during the holidays, but I really want to try. I feel so much better when I work-out and eat somewhat decently.
3. Bless someone. Parker's side of the family has a really neat tradition where we each get money to bless someone with. It's one of my favorite traditions that I look forward to each year.
4. Host a Christmas party. We had so much fun hosting a Halloween party and want to host a Christmas one too!
5. Savor every moment. This season will come and go so quickly. I want to feel like I enjoyed every second to the fullest.
November Goals
How is it already November? We are going to blink, and it's going to be 2016 before we know it! Good grief. This time of year is such a special one, and I want to make sure I enjoy it to the fullest. This is not the time of year I want to lounge on the couch for days on end watching Netflix. We'll leave that for February when it's too cold to leave the house. But November? November is for warm scarves, the great outdoors, and the last bit of college football.
And now for some goals! Before we get started on November, let's see how October went...
Organize my closet... check! Well, checkish. I didn't organize the whole thing per say, but I did bring all of my favorite winter items to the front. So pretty much, my lumberjack shirts and puffer vests are ready for wearing!
Do 1500 squats... FAIL. This was such a fail that it needed to be written in all caps. I actually forgot this was a goal because I quit so early in the month. I did 50 one day and then another 50 the next day and realized I was going to be in a state of extreme perpetual soreness if I kept this up, so I threw in the towel. Fail.
Go. See. Taylor. Swift... check! Gosh, this was epic. If you know me, you know my love for TSwift is something fierce, and seeing her in concert with my twin sister was easily one of the best nights of my life. I want to go back!
Take our Christmas picture... check! Thanks to a sweet friend who volunteered her time and talent, this is done. So excited to pick our favorite and mail it out next month! I shared this sneak peek on the blog earlier this week.
Read the book of Ephesians... check! So much wisdom in this book. My Bible study group also touched on several passages in Ephesians over the last few weeks, so that was a nice overlap.
Be flexible... check. Obviously this is abstract and hard to quantify, but I think I was flexible with all the curveballs the Navy threw at us. Things didn't go as planned, flights were scheduled at inopportune times, but life kept rocking right along.
-----------------------------
And now for November!
-----------------------------
Order our Christmas card. Taking the pictures is the part that's always difficult. Ordering the card is the fun part!
Finish Christmas shopping. I don't know why I say "finish" when I haven't even started, but I do want to finish it before December gets here. I always like to wait for black Friday/cyber Monday in case there are deals on what I plan on buying. I do already know what I am getting a good number of my people, so there's a start.
Host Friendsgiving. More on this later in the month, but Thanksgiving is going to look a little different for us this year. I am excited to host our first ever Friendsgiving with some of the people we are blessed to get to do life with here in Virginia.
Do 1000 push-ups. This is a repeat goal, but I loved it so much that I want to do it again. I did this back in August and am ready to tackle it again!
Decorate the house for Christmas. I am one of those people we all love to hate who decorates her house a little bit early each year. I will wait a couple of more weeks, but a girl can't wait forever! ;)
That's it for November! What are your goals this month?
October Goals
Hello October! I was thinking the other day, I bet if you polled the entire country, October would win America's favorite month. People go nuts for this month, and I'm right there with them. There really is something so magical about the month of October!
I am going to try to set some great goals for this great month! But before I do that, let's see how September's goals went...
1. Do a gallery wall for my office. Check! And yall, I absolutely love it! Full post with pictures here.
2. Host a football party. Fail. We had every intention of doing this, but Parker was gone two weekends in September and I was gone one, so time was not on our side. We did have people over, so I suppose that counts for something (ish).
3. Get a haircut. Check! Well, I got a haircut, but it was probably the worst haircut I have ever received. My hairdresser forgot a nice chunk in the middle, as I have pictured below. I have learned my lesson and will go to a legit salon next time (I really thought this one was going to be a good one though!). I had to give myself a little trim when I got home just to even it out!
4. Do 2000 crunches. Check! Okay, if I am being completely honest, I had to do 200 on Oct. 1 to complete this goal. Whatevs, we're counting it.
5. Write 5 handwritten notes. Check! I love sending little love notes of encouragement. They are the ultimate happy mail! Heck, anything that's not a bill is happy mail these days. #adultproblems
And now for October's goals!
1. Organize my closet. It's time to move the sweaters and jackets to the front and the tank tops to the back! This also means I am about to not be able to wear shorts every day... someone hold me.
2. Do 1500 squats. This comes out to about 50 per day. Totally manageable... until I go 5 days without remembering to do them. Here goes nothing!
3. Go. See. Taylor. Swift. Ahhh! It's finally October which means it's the month of TSwift! Yes yes yes!
4. Take our Christmas picture. I always try to knock this out in October so I have plenty of time to order them and send them out the day after Thanksgiving.
5. Read the book of Ephesians. I want to start reading a book of the Bible each month and being intentional about learning from that book. I went with the first book that came to me... so here we go, Ephesians.
6. Be flexible. This one is vague, but it's an internal goal for me this month. The Navy is trying my patience as of late and has been putting that whole "absence makes the heart grow fonder" thing to the test, so my goal this month is to be flexible and appreciate the time Parker and I do get together. The "someone always has it worse" mentality really helps me with this. When things get annoying or frustrating, I try to look at the bigger picture and realize my problem is nothing compared to what some people are going through in their lives right now. This helps, yall.
That's it for goals! What do you want to accomplish this month?
September Goals
It's September... what?! I have all things Fall, pumpkin, and football on the brain, and I'm not mad about it. These goal posts have really kept me motivated to get my rear in gear and cross some things off that to-do list.
Before I write out my goals for September, let's see how August's goals shaped out...
1. Update the Recipes tab on my blog. Done! I gave it a fresh new look and added every recipe I've ever posted. I love the way it came out, and it will be soooo much easier to update throughout the week. If you're in need of new meal ideas, feel free to check out my Recipes tab! :)
2. Find Aggie yard art. Done! These Aggies are ready for the first fightin' Texas Aggie football game this weekend!
3. Decorate the porch for Fall. Fail...ish. We got new porch furniture that I am in love with, but Fall decorations did not take place. Maybe next month.
4. Do 1000 push-ups. Done! I am really proud to have accomplished this one, and I can tell a small difference in my arms already. I may or may not have had to do 100 on the 31st just to complete this goal, but I completed it!
5. Find curtains for the downstairs windows. Seriously. Done! It was no easy fete, but I absolutely love what we chose. We decided on this curtain from Bed Bath & Beyond in the Raffia color. We love it!
And now for September's goals (Seriously, September?! Where did this year go?)...
1. Do a gallery wall for my office. I've decided I want to display more pictures throughout the house and love the idea of a gallery wall in my office. I have the frames, so now it's a matter of hanging them. #hardestpart
2. Host a football party. It's Aggie football season, and we need to celebrate!
3. Get a haircut. I'm a terrible girl in this aspect. I am pretty low maintenance about my hair and get it cut about once every 6-8 months. I've never dyed it and usually get the same cut. Boring, party of one. But, it's time for my semi-annual trim!
4. Do 2000 crunches. This seems really ambitious. I'll give it the old college try.
5. Write 5 handwritten notes. There is not much better than receiving fun notes in the mail. I have more cute notecards from the Target dollar section than I know what to do with, so this month, I want to utilize good old fashioned snail mail and hopefully make someone's day with a little handwritten note.
What are your goals for this month?
August Goals
How is it already August? This is about the time of year where I start feeling really badly for teachers. Summer always goes by too quickly! I really liked having a goal list for July and am excited to do this every month. For some reason, writing it down on the interwebs kept me just accountable enough to get stuff done. Winning!
Before we get to August goals, here's a look at how July goals went...
1. Clean out office closet. Fail...ish. My home office closet has become the storage room for any and all decorative items that don't currently have a place in our home. Since I am decorating this place at a snail's pace, that stash has amounted to quite a bit. I did organize it this month and put everything in neat piles, but it all still resides in the office closet. That's just how it's going to be for a while, and a little junk closet never killed anyone. ;)
2. Organize pantry. Done! I bought some cheap bins to categorize everything, and it feels so. much. more. organized. I love it!
3. Run 31 miles in 31 days. Check! I actually ended up running 35.25 miles this month, but who's counting? This goal really helped keep me accountable and get those runs in!
4. Make Jenny a food storage container with her silhouette on it. Done! Seeing her little floppy-eared silhouette makes me smile.
5. Publish at least 20 blog posts. Done! I published 20 exactly, which felt like a minor miracle. I may have written many of them at 10 PM the night before, but they got published!
6. Figure out a good space filler for our long hallway. Fail...ish. Well, I think I figured out what I want to do, but I didn't actually do it yet. I want to do three large canvases with family pictures. I just need to choose the pictures!
7. Relax. Done! I won't lie and say it wasn't a busy month, but we still found time to stop and smell the roses.
And now for August goals...
1. Update the Recipes tab on my blog. I don't even know if anyone looks at this tab, but I haven't added new recipes in over a year, and that bugs me. One day when I have a couple of hours to spare, I'm going to turn on some reality TV and update that Recipes tab.
2. Find Aggie Yard Art. It's college football season, so I want to find a little A&M banner that I can display in the front yard. I don't want anything too obnoxious, but this is a momentous time of the year that deserves to be celebrated.
3. Decorate the porch for Fall. Hobby Lobby is calling my name, and I must go.
4. Do 1000 push ups. I thought this would be a fun fitness goal for the month. This averages out to just over 32 push ups each day. Completely manageable... until I forget to do them 5 days in a row.
5. Find curtains for the downstairs windows. Seriously. The struggle is real with curtains. Our windows are tall, so we need 108 inch curtains, which has proven difficult to find the style we like without spending an arm and a leg. If you have any suggestions on places to look, I am all ears.

That's it for this month! What are your goals for August?
