How We Watch TV: Binge Watching

So I've blogged several times about the fact that we got rid of cable, but that doesn't mean we don't still watch all of our favorite shows. Our favorite way to watch TV shows is binge watching. We will pick a series that has already started or maybe even already finished and just watch the heck out of it. Of course we watch a few shows in real time as well, but binge watching is so much more fun. If we are watching a show that only comes on once a week, I can barely remember what happened the last episode when another one rolls around. Multiple episodes per week is the way to go, just saying.

Preach it, Ned Stark {via}

The first series Parker and I ever binge watched together was Lost. We watched this while we were dating and got really into it! It had already aired by the time we watched it, so we watched all 6 seasons at once. That show definitely got a little far fetched at the end and we were kind of ready for it to be over with all of the weird plot twists, but it opened up our eyes to the beauty of binge watching.

Shows we have watched from start to finish... or at least until the most current episode:

Lost
Friends
The Americans
Game of Thrones
Big Bang Theory
Downton Abbey
Survivor (not sure that this counts as a binge-worthy show, but we are hooked from season to season)

We are currently going through all of the seasons of Friends. Being that it is my all-time favorite show, I have seen each episode multiple times but it's been a while since Parker has so we watch several a week. If he is home during the day, we typically pop in an episode and watch it while we have lunch. It's a quick show and man is it funny.

We are also going through the seasons of Game of Thrones right now. My husband is obsessed with all things Game of Thrones, let me tell ya. I like this show well enough. It's not my favorite, but that's really just because I get angry when George R.R. Martin kills off my favorite characters. Stop doing that, Georgie.

Shows I have watched from start to finish... or at least until the most current episode:

Grey's Anatomy
How To Get Away With Murder (favorite show on television right now)
Desperate Housewives
Alias

We watched a few seasons of Prison Break, but Parker decided it had gotten too far fetched and didn't want to watch the last season. I really liked that show and wish I would have just finished it on my own! He did the same thing with Alias. He doesn't like it when he doesn't think it's realistic within the context of the show. Over-thinkers. We started watching Breaking Bad, but I am the reason we stopped that. On the fourth or fifth episode, there is a scene with a certain ceramic tub and a certain dead guy in the tub. I was eating lunch when I watched it, and that was that. We need to give it another try because people absolutely love this show and I really think we would too. It might just have to be an after dinner show only.

So that's our list! What shows do you recommend we add to the queue? Please don't say The Walking Dead. In my brain, zombies are real and I just can't handle that show. I'd love to hear your zombie-less suggestions and what your favorites are!

Ahh I saw they added Friends to Netflix and I need to re-watch all of the episodes again! I started watching Parenthood and Scandal and I really love them both. I binged-watched Downton up until the current season and then I ran out of episodes and haven't watched it since...the same thing happened with Homeland, which is really good and I need to catch up on! We just got Season 4 of GOT because my fiance is the exact same way..he is OBSESSED so I'm sure it will consume our lives over the next week or so!

We ended up falling in love with How I Met Your Mother on a binge watching session and I'm not sure if it's available online or not but That 70s show

We have actually only watched one show together ever (not big TV watchers over here), and it was Breaking Bad. We LOVED it. We did actually just start The Walking Dead (hahaha, sorry), but I don't know if we'll continue with it or not... the pilot episode wasn't very engaging to us.

Some of my Netflix faves include Scandal, Sherlock, Spartacus, Dexter, Lie to Me, and Nikita :D We are currently watching American Horror Story, while it is a great show... it really freaks me out.

I feel like after that horrible episode of Breaking Bad, there weren't many more that were so horrific. I gagged through that one. But, the whole show is awesome.
We LOVE The Americans. And, Parenthood is one of my favorites, but Sully isn't a fan.

If you liked Alias, you should check out Nikita! I loved that show! And I totally want to watch Desperate Housewives now!

This is totally a suggestion for you if Parker ever deploys, but I highly recommend Gilmore Girls. I haven't watched Gossip Girl, but that is on my list. As soon as I finish Gilmore Girls, I plan to watch The Office and Friends.

My husband and I LOVE binge watching shows! And my 5-year-old has started using references to Friends in public; I have never been so proud. You should definitely give Breaking Bad another chance. I would watch it, riveted and horrified at the same time. Sherlock is one of the best shows on TV, in my opinion. I also love the show Call the Midwife.

P.S. That's Ned Stark in your top picture, not Jamie Lannister. I was totally unprepared for the Red Wedding. It does not pay to be a Stark.

I think I'm one of the only people who can't handle binge watching most shows-- sometimes I can do a season but after that-- even if I love the show I usually need a break! I don't know if Suits is on Netflix (it's on amazon prime, if you have that), but it's SO good. I feel you on Breaking Bad! That's one my husband binge watched and it was WAY too intense, so I watched episodes here and there (they were always really good), but I just couldn't handle so much of it all at once!

Also, I second everyone else on Sherlock too!

Friends!!! Best show ever! Haha we watch it every night on Nick-at-Nite lol. I recommend Parenthood. So so so so good!!!! You will love it! Gilmore Girls is a "when Parker is busy" show (although Nick has caught episodes and doesn't hate it. He likes Lorelai's wit). We love Elementary (the American version of Sherlock with Lucy Liu as Watson) and the British show "Sherlock". We looooove Rules of Engagement. I don't care for David Spade but the others are hilarious and we were sad when it ended. How I Met Your Mother is also really good. Oldies that we've binged and loved were House and Will & Grace. And Wonder Years!!!

We watched ALL of Mad Men. Loved it, but it really made me want to drink, smoke, and cuss. Glad that is over with, but can't wait for the new season to start, especially how they ended the last season...

Psych! I think it would be a great show for both of you. How I Met Your Mother is another good one! I also recommend Gossip Girl, but that is probably more for you than a couple thing.
