Asian Lettuce Wraps

I love Asian food, Chinese food in particular. Period, end of story. It's just so good. It is, however, the one type of food that I don't even try to make at home. After many failed attempts, I have realized nothing I make will ever be as good as what I can get at a Chinese restaurant. It just never tastes as good in my kitchen, so we leave Chinese food to the experts. When I saw this recipe, my first inclination was to skip over it. I've tried and failed one too many recipes to want to attempt Chinese food again. I decided to click on it anyway though, and I was intrigued. Almost all of the ingredients were things I either already had on hand or was at least familiar with using, so I gave it a shot. Best. decision. ever. Parker and I loved these. By loved, I mean really, really loved. I will be making these again and again. Not only were they super simple, but they were super healthy too! I really can't say enough good things about these lettuce wraps. We both went back for multiple helpings and finished the entire skillet in one sitting. I wish I were sorry about it.

Ingredients:
1 lb lean ground turkey
2 large carrots, shredded
1/2 cup green onions, diced
about 20 fresh basil leaves, chopped
1/4 cup soy sauce, divided
2 Tbsp brown sugar, divided
4 Tbsp minced garlic
1/3 cup olive oil
head of iceberg lettuce

Directions:
1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and add garlic, heating until it begins to smell delicious.
2. Add ground turkey to pan with half of your soy sauce and half of your brown sugar and brown for about 10 minutes. Drain meat if needed and return to pan.
3. Add remaining brown sugar and soy sauce, chopped basil, shredded carrots, and diced green onions. Stir quickly for one minute and remove from heat (vegetables will not be entirely cooked through).
4. Serve with iceberg lettuce (cut lettuce head into quarters and use lettuce as a cup for the meat) or by itself in a bowl.

 Enjoy!

This looks so good! I, too, am a bit afraid of trying to incorporate Asian cooking into my kitchen. However, this recipe is so good and basically food proof. You have to try it! http://www.tablefortwoblog.com/take-out-fake-out-beef-broccoli-crockpot/

These look AMAZING! We make lettuce wraps quite often but we usually just use a mix we get at the store and it's always too salty, so I'm definitely going to try your recipe next time!
